Stainless Steel Sheet for Kitchen Equipment: Grades, Finishes & Sizes (India)
Jindal Stainless recommends grade 304, food-grade and non-magnetic, with a No.4 satin finish, for any wet or food-contact part in a commercial kitchen: worktables, sinks, splashbacks. For dry, non-corrosive parts, though, 430 does the job and trims the cost. Hood outer skins, shelving, cabinet panels, these don't need the premium grade.

That's really what "best stainless steel grade for kitchen" means in practice. Match the grade, the finish and the thickness to each part. Then order genuine Jindal material with a mill test certificate, no substitutes. Every stainless steel sheet for kitchen fabrication has to start from that decision. Get the kitchen equipment stainless steel sheet right in grade first, and only then send it on to your fabricator.
All material conforms to ASTM A240 / IS 6911, as produced by Jindal Stainless.
Relinox Stainless is an authorized MoU partner of Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL), and it deals strictly in stainless flat products. It has nothing to do with Jindal SAW, JSPL or JSW, which handle carbon steel and pipes, and it's not affiliated with SAIL Salem either. We supply genuine JSL-melted ss sheet for kitchen work, covering 304, 430 and more. None of it is re-rolled bazaar stock. Everything gets dispatched pan-India from our stock point at Ajmeri Gate, Delhi, one of the city's main stainless steel markets. To be clear on scope: what we're talking about here is the sheet used to fabricate kitchen equipment. It's not finished household utensils, and it's not modular-kitchen cabinets either.
Where stainless steel sheet is used in a kitchen
Commercial kitchen stainless steel is the go-to fabrication material for the hard-working, wash-down parts of a professional kitchen. Operators choose stainless steel for commercial kitchen builds, a hotel kitchen, a restaurant line, an institutional canteen or a cloud kitchen, because it resists corrosion, stays hygienic and cleans up fast. Whether the need is a restaurant ss sheet, a canteen ss sheet or a cloud-kitchen ss sheet, the same grade logic applies across the board. Typical fabricated parts:
- Worktables and counters, the food-prep and plating surfaces.
- Sinks, undermount bowls and drainboards, constant water contact.
- Exhaust hoods and canopies sit right over the cooking line. An ss sheet for chimney ducting, or an exhaust hood canopy, forms a core part of the setup.
- Shelving, racks and storage cabinets, dry storage and mise-en-place.
- Splashbacks and wall panels, behind the range and prep zones.
- Cooking-range bodies and enclosures, the equipment shells themselves.
Which grade for which part?
The table below is the core selector. It maps each kitchen part to a recommended grade, the finish, a typical thickness in mm (gauge), and why. It answers which ss for kitchen sink, worktable or hood in one place. Grade behaviour follows composition per ASTM A240; thickness is a typical working range, so confirm your exact spec and stocked thickness against your indent on the RFQ.
| Component | Recommended grade | Finish | Typical thickness, mm (gauge) | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Worktable / counter | 304 | No.4 (satin) | 1.2–2.0 mm (18–14 G) | Food contact, wet, takes heavy daily use |
| Sink & undermount bowls | 304 | No.4 / satin | 1.0–1.5 mm (20–16 G) | Constant water and detergent; drawn bowls |
| Exhaust hood / canopy | 304 (430 outer skin) | No.4 | 0.8–1.2 mm (22–18 G) | Grease and condensation; 430 skin cuts cost |
| Wall splashback | 304 | No.4 / mirror | 0.8–1.0 mm (22–20 G) | Wet wall behind range; wipe-clean hygiene |
| Shelving / racks | 430 (304 in wet zones) | No.4 / 2B | 0.9–1.2 mm (20–18 G) | Mostly dry storage; 430 saves cost |
| Cabinet / enclosure | 430 | No.4 / 2B | 0.8–1.0 mm (22–20 G) | Dry structural panels, no standing water |
| Cooking-range body | 304 / 430 | No.4 | 1.0–1.5 mm (20–16 G) | Heat, cleaning; 304 near food, 430 outer |
Grades are sourced on Jindal flat products; conformance is ASTM A240 / IS 6911, and MTC is available. Per-grade notes appear below, while the quick-compare table sits further down.
Grade 304 for wet & food-contact parts
304 is austenitic (~18% Cr / ~8% Ni), non-magnetic, with the best corrosion resistance and food hygiene of the common kitchen grades, the default for sinks, worktables and splashbacks and anywhere water, salts or acids sit. A 304 stainless steel sheet for kitchen is the food grade ss sheet for kitchen choice where MTC proof matters, and 304L helps where welding is heavy. See SS 304 and SS 304L; the food-grade stainless steel guide frames what "food-grade" means.
Grade 430 for dry / decorative parts
430 is ferritic (~16–18% Cr, no nickel), magnetic and lower cost, a magnetic ss kitchen grade that suits dry, non-corrosive parts: hood outer skins, shelving, cabinet panels and decorative cladding not in constant water or salt contact. Choosing 430 stainless steel kitchen parts for dry zones is the honest way to cut cost without risking the wet-zone hygiene. Grade data on SS 430.
202 / J4: budget trade-off (route to the comparison)
Jindal makes 202 and J4 in the 200-series Cr-Mn-N family, bright, economical, the usual pick for budget decorative work and dry parts. If you're weighing ss 202 for kitchen use, keep it to dry, non-food applications. Its corrosion resistance falls short of 304, so we don't recommend it for direct food or wet contact.
Before you specify anything, think through the 202 vs 304 for kitchen trade-off. Our SS 202 vs 304 guide walks through it in detail. Grade specifics live on the SS 202 and Jindal J4 pages.
316 for coastal / heavy wash-down
316 pairs molybdenum with 304 to boost corrosion resistance, and you'd specify it only for aggressive coastal, high-salt or chemical wash-down kitchens where 304 falls short. The extra performance comes at a price, so save it for those conditions specifically. Details on both grades sit at SS 316 and SS 316L.
Finishes for kitchen equipment
No.4 (satin/brushed) has become the standard finish for kitchen equipment. It hides scuffs and scratches and wipes clean easily, and that's exactly why most fabricators order a matt, satin or brushed finish kitchen sheet. For hidden parts, painted surfaces or anything headed for further polishing, 2B (mill cold-rolled) does the job. Decorative fronts and feature splashbacks call for BA/mirror instead.
Want the full range explained? Our SS finishes explained guide covers it. For decorative feature panels, check out our designer sheets, that includes mirror finish and PVD colour options.
Splashbacks & kitchen wall panels
A stainless steel sheet for kitchen wall, the splashback behind a range or prep counter, is the wipe-clean hygienic panel that replaces tiled or painted walls in a working kitchen. For an ss sheet for kitchen wall, backsplash or splashback, specify 304 in a No.4 or mirror finish. Thickness typically runs 0.8–1.0 mm (22–20 G), and it's fixed with adhesive and edge trims over a sound substrate. This is a kitchen-equipment component, not general building cladding; for lobby and building wall cladding, see our wall cladding & interiors page instead. Want a decorative feature wall? Look at etched, embossed or water-ripple sheets.
Sizes, thickness & gauge
We stock the standard Indian market sizes. The classic 8x4 ss sheet for kitchen (also written 4x8 sheet kitchen) covers most worktable and panel jobs. For longer runs, 4x10 and 5x10 fit better, and cut-to-size job-work trims to your drawing. When it comes to ss sheet thickness for kitchen table work, stick to 1.2–2.0 mm. Panels and hoods, on the other hand, run 0.8–1.2 mm. The gauge equivalents are listed below.
| Size name | mm | Common thickness (mm) | Gauge equiv. |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8x4 (4x8) | 1250 × 2500 | 0.8–2.0 | 22–14 G |
| 4x10 | 1250 × 3050 | 0.9–1.5 | 20–16 G |
| 5x10 | 1500 × 3000 | 1.0–2.0 | 20–14 G |
Cut sizes come standard. Mm and gauge convert per the usual sheet-metal chart. Cut-to-size is offered as job-work. Confirm the stocked thickness range on RFQ.
For the ss sheet weight for kitchen 8x4 and other sizes, don't ask for a fixed figure. Sheet weight is length × width × thickness × density, so run it through the weight calculator or check the SS sheet weight chart. Need full size and thickness references? See SS sheet sizes & thickness. Looking for narrow strip and patta work, whether it's an ss patta for kitchen trim or a patti edge, that goes to SS patta / strips. Ventilated shelving and hood filters, on the other hand, call for perforated sheets. And for the generic listing, there's stainless steel sheets.
Food safety & standards
For food contact, 304 works well, and 316 for harsher environments; both are the right austenitic pick for sinks, worktables and splashbacks. 430 and the 200-series grades belong on dry, decorative parts instead. Material conforms to ASTM A240 / IS 6911 as produced by Jindal Stainless and ships with a mill test certificate. That's mill conformance, not a Relinox certification, and the distinction matters. Standards detail: ASTM A240 and IS 6911. The food-grade stainless steel guide explains what "food-grade" actually means before you specify.

Why buy from Relinox (Jindal MoU partner)
Relinox holds an official Jindal Stainless MoU partnership. That makes it the legitimate, authorized source for genuine JSL-melted sheet: precisely the jindal ss sheet for kitchen that a fabricator or kitchen-equipment OEM needs, backed by paperwork proving where the material actually came from, not re-rolled bazaar stock. The food-grade 304 and 430 kitchen range falls under that umbrella, along with a No.4 satin finish, cut-to-size job-work, a mill test certificate ready at dispatch, and delivery across India from our base at Ajmeri Gate. For more on the partnership, see Jindal MoU partnership, about Relinox, and quality & mill test certificates.
Whether you were hunting for a stainless steel sheet for kitchen dealer, an ss sheet for kitchen distributor or ss sheet for kitchen supplier, an ss sheet for kitchen stockist or ss sheet for kitchen stockholder, an ss sheet for kitchen trader or ss sheet for kitchen wholesaler, or even a jindal ss sheet for kitchen dealer, jindal ss sheet for kitchen distributor or jindal ss sheet for kitchen stockist, that trade lane belongs to us. If instead you typed in kitchen ss sheet manufacturer, here's an honest clarification: Relinox distributes, stocks and supplies Jindal-produced stainless sheet, never a "manufacturer" of the steel itself. That's simply the correct description of an authorized channel that supplies mill-certified material.
Proximity and city searches, an ss sheet for kitchen near me, an ss sheet for kitchen in delhi, or an ss sheet for kitchen in mumbai, all point back to our Delhi stock point. FAQ
Which stainless steel is best for commercial kitchen equipment?
Use 304 (food-grade, non-magnetic) for wet and food-contact parts, sinks, worktables, splashbacks. Go with 430 for dry or decorative parts like hood skins and shelving; it costs less. See SS 304 and SS 430.
Is 304 or 430 better for a kitchen?
304 hoods anywhere water, salt or food sits, sinks, worktables, splashbacks, because it resists corrosion and stays hygienic. 430 covers dry parts with no standing water, like hood outer skins and shelving, where it keeps cost down. Match the grade to the zone.
Is 202 stainless steel okay for kitchen use?
It's fine for budget decorative work and dry areas, but corrosion resistance falls short of 304, so we wouldn't recommend it for direct food or wet contact. See the SS 202 vs 304 guide for the full trade-off.
What finish is used for kitchen worktables and equipment?
No.4 (satin/brushed) is the industry standard. It hides scuffs and cleans up easily. 2B works well for hidden or painted parts, while mirror finish fits decorative fronts. For more detail, check the SS finishes explained guide.
What thickness SS sheet for a kitchen worktable?
Typically 1.2–2.0 mm (roughly 18–14 gauge) for worktables and sinks, and 0.8–1.2 mm for panels and hoods. Check the stocked range against your indent on the RFQ.
Is your stainless steel food grade or certified?
For food contact, 304 and 316 are the austenitic grades that fit. Jindal Stainless makes the material to ASTM A240 and IS 6911, and it ships with a mill test certificate. That's mill conformance, not a Relinox certification. See the food-grade stainless steel guide for more.
What size sheets do you supply, and do you have 8x4?
Yes, 1250×2500 mm (8x4), 1250×3050 mm (4x10) and 1500×3000 mm (5x10), plus cut-to-size job-work to your drawing. See SS sheet sizes & thickness.
What's the price of SS sheet for kitchen?
It depends on grade, thickness, finish and quantity, so we don't quote a fixed number here. Check the dated indicative price list and confirm today's rate on the RFQ.
Is this genuine Jindal material, and do I get a mill test certificate?
Yes, Relinox is a Jindal Stainless MoU partner. It supplies genuine JSL-melted sheet, not re-rolled bazaar stock, and a mill test certificate ships with every dispatch. See quality & MTC.
Do you deliver to my city?
We dispatch pan-India from our Ajmeri Gate, Delhi stock point. Logistics stay honest, and there's no fake local address involved. Send your city and quantity on the RFQ, and we'll confirm freight terms.
Can you cut sheets to my kitchen drawing size?
Yes, cut-to-size and shearing job-work are available. Just send us your cutting list along with the RFQ.
