Which stainless steel grade for signage & letters?
The grade choice for ss sheet for signage comes down to where the sign lives. 304 / 304L is the workhorse for exterior, humid and coastal signage. It resists atmospheric and chloride corrosion well, so outdoor name boards and façade letters keep their finish (corrosion behaviour as per ASTM A240 / IS 6911 published data). For indoor or cost-led work, 202 / J4 (200-series) and 430 (a magnetic ferritic grade) cut cost for interior letters and signboards. They resist corrosion less than 304, though, so keep them out of exteriors, wet areas and coastal air, where they can tea-stain. That's why best ss grade for outdoor signage is almost always 304. Budget indoor SS fabrication letters sheet work, on the other hand, runs on 202, J4 or 430.

Finishes for signage letters: mirror, PVD gold, rose-gold, black, hairline & etched
Finish sells a sign. Every designer finish here is job-work on genuine Jindal base sheet. A golden letter sheet, or golden ss sheet for letters, gets a PVD gold coat. A mirror sheet for letters, sometimes called mirror finish letter sheet, is a No.8 mirror. Rose gold ss sheet for signage and black ss sheet for signage are PVD colours. Signage types & recommended thickness
Channel letters and backlit signage sheets call for a thin, flat face over a lit can. A 3D box letter needs something a bit heavier, plus returns. Flat-cut letters and nameplates land somewhere in the middle. Different builds, different faces, and that's the starting point for choosing stock.
So which ss suits backlit or illuminated letters? A 0.8–1.0 mm face does the job, keeping weight and cost down without losing flatness. A building name plate, or nameplate ss sheet, usually runs 1.0–1.5 mm instead, since rigidity matters more there than shaving grams. 304 / 304L is the right call for outdoor and coastal signage. It resists corrosion better than the alternatives and keeps its finish even after long exposure outside. Indoors, or where cost matters more than weather resistance, 202, J4 and 430 all do the job for letters and signboards. Just keep them away from exteriors and anywhere wet.
Does stainless steel signage rust outdoors?
