Stainless Steel Sheet for Wall Cladding & Interiors: Grades & Finishes

Jindal Stainless makes the call simple for interior wall cladding. For feature walls, columns, lift-lobbies and reception areas, grade 304 stainless sheet in a No.4 hairline finish handles most jobs. Step up to 316 / 316L when you're dealing with exterior or façade work, or walls exposed to coastal air and humidity. Save 430 / J4 / 204Cu for dry, cost-driven decorative interiors only.

Curved metallic facade cladding on modern architecture

That's really the whole decision behind any stainless steel sheet for wall order. Match grade, finish and thickness to each surface. Then buy genuine Jindal material backed by a mill test certificate. Whether you need a stainless steel sheet for wall cladding, an ss sheet for wall panel, or ss sheet for wall cladding cut to your module, the same grade-and-finish logic applies every time. Material conforms to ASTM A240 / IS 6911, as produced by Jindal.

Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) counts Relinox Stainless among its authorized MoU partners for stainless flat products. That's Jindal, not Jindal SAW, not JSW, not JSPL, and not SAIL Salem, carbon steel and pipes sit outside this partnership entirely. We supply genuine JSL-melted jindal ss sheet for wall work, a jindal cladding sheet across the full grade range. None of it is re-rolled bazaar stock. Dispatch runs pan-India out of our Ajmeri Gate, Delhi stock point, one of the city's main stainless steel markets. Contractors often ask for it in different words. Whether the phrase is wall pe lagane wali SS sheet or diwar wali sheet, this is the material and the grade map they're after.

Which stainless steel grade for wall cladding?

304 or 316 for wall cladding, that's really the whole question, and the answer hinges on where the panel lives. 304 is the go-to austenitic choice for interior cladding. It forms well, resists corrosion under normal conditions, and takes hairline, mirror, PVD and etched finishes without fuss. Move outdoors, though, and the calculus shifts: 316 / 316L brings molybdenum into the mix, which is what gives it an edge against chlorides and pitting. Specify it for façades, coastal jobs, or any wall exposed to high humidity.

Budget projects call for something else entirely. For an economy interior decorative sheet, J4, 204Cu and 430 all come in cheaper. 430 is ferritic and magnetic. J4 and 204Cu sit in the 200-series camp. None of the three holds up outdoors, and all three trail 304 and 316 on corrosion resistance, but for indoor decorative work where cost matters more than chloride exposure, they do the job. The table below pairs each surface type with a recommended grade, finish and typical thickness. Anyone weighing 304 against 316 in more depth should see the SS 304 vs 316 guide.

Finishes for stainless steel wall panels

The finish sets the look and how a wall ages under touch. The table below maps each finish to its look, its fingerprint and scratch behaviour, the surface it suits, and the page that owns it. Full designer sheet for interiors and designer wall sheet options live on the designer sheets hub.

Designer finishes are job-work done on a Jindal base sheet. For an explanation of finish types, see SS finishes explained.

Hairline (No.4): the default cladding finish

A hairline, or No.4, brushed finish is the industry default for wall cladding sheet. The fine directional grain hides everyday scuffs and fingerprints, and it wipes clean without much effort. Feature walls, columns, dado panels, most of them ship in No.4. You'll find the base sheet on the stainless steel sheets page.

Mirror finish for premium feature walls

A mirror finish wall panel, sold as a mirror cladding sheet in No.8, reads as premium but shows every fingerprint. Reserve it for low-touch feature panels rather than corridor dado. Finish entity and pricing are owned by the mirror finish SS sheets page.

PVD colour: gold, rose-gold, black

PVD / gold / rose-gold / black wall cladding sheets bring a colored, durable finish to design-led interiors, and anti-fingerprint PVD variants are a smart pick for high-touch columns and lobbies. For the full range of colors, check the PVD colour SS sheets page.

Etched & water-ripple: decorative texture

Etched wall cladding sheet comes with a patterned matt design, built for feature walls. Water-ripple wall panel sheet does something different: it gives you a rippled, reflective texture that hides marks. Head to etched or water-ripple designer sheets to see both.

Embossed / rigidized: anti-fingerprint, vandal-resistant

An embossed / rigidized / textured wall sheet is the practical answer for busy and public interiors: the texture masks marks and resists denting. An anti-fingerprint / no-fingerprint wall panel sheet brief points here, as does a scratch-resistant / vandal-resistant wall cladding requirement. Route to embossed designer sheets or a PVD anti-fingerprint finish.

Surface-by-surface guide

Each cladding surface has its own sweet spot for grade, finish, and thickness. Read this alongside the grade selection table above.

Interior feature & accent walls

The feature wall / accent wall ss sheet, the largest visible surface, usually comes in 304 with a No.4 hairline, mirror, or PVD finish, around 0.8–1.2 mm thick. Order an ss wall panel or stainless steel wall panel for a feature wall and you're setting the tone for the whole room; that's why the finish choice matters more here than anywhere else. Grab an ss cladding sheet or stainless steel cladding sheet for the same job, and the grade logic doesn't change one bit.

Column & pillar cladding

An SS column cladding sheet, or pillar cladding sheet, wraps around structural columns. Specify 304 at 1.0–1.5 mm, finished in hairline, mirror, or PVD. The sheet has to wrap-form cleanly and hold up under heavy contact without denting.

Lift-lobby & reception cladding

A lift lobby / reception cladding ss sheet makes the first impression, and the cladding needs to carry that weight. 304 stainless at 0.8–1.2 mm, finished hairline, rigidized or PVD, gives that premium look while still hiding fingerprints in a zone that sees constant foot traffic.

Dado / wainscot & edge trims (patta)

A dado / wainscot / skirting ss sheet guards the wall where contact happens most, running 304 at 1.0–1.5 mm in hairline or mirror. Edge trims and skirting often come from ss patta / patti for wall trims & edges, a narrow strip cut and folded into the trim profile. That routes to SS patta / strips.

False-ceiling panels

A false ceiling SS cladding panel is a light-weight 304 panel, usually 0.6–1.0 mm thick, finished in hairline, mirror or PVD to match the walls and carry light fittings.

Exterior / façade cladding

An exterior / façade / building front cladding ss sheet stands up to the weather, so it needs 316 or 316L at 1.2–2.0 mm. The extra molybdenum fights off pitting and chlorides in coastal, humid or polluted air. For building fronts, hairline, bead-blast or PVD finishes work well.

Door skins & door trims

The ss sheet for door panel, or a door skin cladding sheet matched to the wall dado, comes in 304 hairline or mirror finish. Frame and edge work again call for patta strip. Related applications include railings & architecture, elevators & lifts, and signage & letters.

Sheet sizes, thickness & gauge for cladding

We stock the standard Indian market sizes and cut to your panel drawing. The classic 8x4 / 4x10 / 5x10 ss sheet for wall cladding covers most panels. 8x4 works for standard modules, while 4x10 and 5x10 suit full-height feature walls and columns. As for ss sheet thickness / gauge for wall cladding, panels typically run 0.6–2.0 mm. Ceilings and light panels call for thinner stock; columns and façades need it thicker.

Size (ft / mm)Typical useThickness band, mm (gauge)
8x4, 1250 × 2500Standard wall modules, dado, ceilings0.6–1.2 mm (24–18 G)
4x10, 1250 × 3050Tall feature walls, column wraps0.8–1.5 mm (22–16 G)
5x10, 1500 × 3000Full-height façade and feature panels1.2–2.0 mm (18–14 G)

Sizes are standard. Millimeters convert to gauge using the standard sheet-metal conversion. Cut-to-size runs as job-work, and stocked thickness range should be confirmed on RFQ.

For sheet weight per 8x4 and other sizes, don't expect a single number here. Weight comes down to length times width times thickness times density. Run those figures through the weight calculator, or check the SS sheet weight chart instead. Need full size and gauge references? See SS sheet sizes & thickness.

Fixing & fabrication of SS cladding

Cladding panels usually get fixed mechanically to a framework or backing, or bonded to a substrate with a structural adhesive, with concealed joints and room left for expansion on longer runs. Leave the protective film on until installation wraps up, so you avoid scratches on site. Cut-to-size and shearing, along with designer finishing such as hairline, mirror, PVD, etched or embossed, are handled as job-work on Jindal base sheet. These are services we arrange rather than in-house mill capabilities. Send your cutting list with the RFQ.

Compliance & material assurance

Wall-cladding sheet conforms to ASTM A240 / IS 6911 as produced by Jindal Stainless, and it ships with a mill test certificate. That's mill conformance, not a Relinox certification. Genuine JSL-melted material matters here because re-rolled bazaar stock can carry off-grade chemistry that stains, streaks or corrodes on a visible wall. For standards detail, see ASTM A240 and IS 6911. For MTC handling, see quality & mill test certificates.

FAQ

Which stainless steel grade is best for wall cladding?

Grade 304 is the go-to for most indoor cladding, feature walls, columns, lobbies. It forms easily, resists corrosion, and takes hairline, mirror, PVD and etched finishes without fuss. For anything exterior, coastal, or exposed to humidity, reach for 316 / 316L instead. Save 430 / J4 / 204Cu for dry interior spaces where the decorative look matters but cost is the deciding factor.

Is 304 or 316 better for exterior or façade cladding?

316 adds molybdenum for better chloride and pitting resistance, so it's the right call outdoors or near the sea. 304 remains the standard choice indoors. Compare them in the SS 304 vs 316 guide.

What finish is used on stainless steel wall panels?

No.4 hairline is the default finish, chosen because it hides scratches and fingerprints so well. Mirror works best on premium feature walls. For decorative, anti-fingerprint surfaces, there's PVD gold, rose-gold and black, along with etched, water-ripple and embossed options.

What thickness of SS sheet is used for wall cladding?

Typically, gauge runs 0.6–2.0 mm depending on the surface. Ceilings and light panels get the thinner stock; columns and façades take the thicker end. The exact number is up to the specifier, so confirm it against your indent on the RFQ.

Which sheet size do you supply for cladding?

Standard 8x4 (1250×2500), 4x10 (1250×3050) and 5x10 (1500×3000) mm, plus cut-to-size to your panel or module dimensions. See SS sheet sizes & thickness.

How is stainless steel sheet fixed to a wall?

Panels usually get fixed mechanically to a framework or backing, or bonded to a substrate with concealed joints. Leave the protective film on until installation's finished. Cladding fabrication and cut-to-size work are offered as job-work.

Does stainless steel wall cladding show fingerprints or scratches?

Hairline (No.4), etched, water-ripple, or rigidized/embossed finishes all beat mirror when it comes to hiding marks, and so does a PVD anti-fingerprint finish. The texture or grain does the work of masking whatever fingerprints and scuffs daily handling leaves behind.

Is stainless steel wall cladding magnetic?

304 and 316, both austenitic, are largely non-magnetic. 430, a ferritic grade, is magnetic. A quick magnet test tells a budget decorative 430 panel from a 304 wall.

Is your material genuine Jindal Stainless?

Relinox is an MoU partner of Jindal Stainless (JSL), and it supplies JSL-melted material backed by mill test certificates. That's not re-rolled bazaar stock. See quality & MTC for details.

Can you cut sheets to our panel sizes and add a finish?

Job-work like cut-to-size, shearing and designer finishing (hairline, mirror, PVD, etched, embossed) is available on Jindal base sheet. Just send your cutting list along with the RFQ.

Do you deliver outside Delhi?

Yes, we ship pan-India straight from our Ajmeri Gate, Delhi stock point, and there's no fake local address involved, the logistics are honest. Just send your city and quantity on the RFQ, and we'll confirm the freight terms.

What does wall-cladding SS sheet cost?

The rate depends on grade, finish, thickness and quantity, so we don't fix a number here. See the dated indicative price list and confirm today's rate on the RFQ.
