How PVD colour is produced

PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition. Inside a vacuum chamber, a metal target (usually titanium or zirconium) gets vaporised and reacts with a process gas, so a hard metal-nitride film condenses onto the stainless surface. Colour comes from that nitride film itself, not from anything applied afterward. Titanium nitride reads as gold. Zirconium and blended nitrides give brass, rose-gold and bronze tones. Gold PVD

Gold PVD gets requested more than any other finish. Base finish options

The PVD colour takes on whatever base finish sits beneath it, so the same tone can look completely different depending on what it's applied over. A PVD nitride film is hard, UV-stable, and abrasion-resistant, far more durable than painted or electroplated color.
