Stainless Steel Chequered Plate (SS Chequered Sheet): Supplier, India
A stainless steel chequered plate is a stainless flat product with a raised, non-slip pattern rolled or pressed onto one face, used for flooring, stair treads, ramps, walkways and platforms where grip matters. Buyers search for the same product under several names: ss chequered plate, ss chequered sheet, stainless steel checkered plate (US spelling), ss checkered sheet, checker plate, tread plate, floor plate, durbar plate, anti-skid plate. In the Indian trade, it goes by chequered patta or chequered patti.

Relinox Stainless supplies jindal chequered plate, genuine Jindal Stainless (JSL) material backed by a mill test certificate. As a Jindal Stainless MoU partner, we serve as an ss chequered sheet supplier india-wide, dispatching pan-India from our stock point at Ajmeri Gate, Delhi.
Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) is what "Jindal" refers to here: stainless flat products from the Hisar and Jajpur mills. We're not Jindal SAW, not Jindal (India) Ltd, not JSW Steel, and not Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL), those companies deal in carbon steel and pipes. We also don't distribute SAIL Salem material. Relinox, for its part, is a JSL MoU partner, and only for stainless flat products.
Worth noting too: a chequered plate (a raised anti-skid pattern meant for flooring) isn't the same thing as a decorative embossed designer sheet, which is about surface texture and looks. Nor is it the same as a perforated sheet, which has actual through-holes.
What is a stainless steel chequered plate?
A stainless steel chequered plate is a flat stainless sheet or plate carrying a repeating raised pattern, usually a diamond, teardrop or 5-bar rib, that stands proud of the base surface to give grip under foot or wheel. The pattern lives on the top face, while the underside stays flat (mill/No.1/2B), which means the plate can still be welded or bolted down just like any flat product. It doubles as structural flooring and a non-slip surface, so people know it by several names: tread plate, floor plate, durbar plate, anti-skid plate, checker plate. Buyers hunting for a standard-size stock plate often search it as jindal ss chequered sheet or 8x4 chequered sheet.
Relinox is an ss chequered plate supplier, stockist, distributor, trader and dealer working on genuine Jindal Stainless base material, and, honestly, never a chequered-plate manufacturer of the steel itself, since JSL melts and rolls the metal. Send your requirement via the RFQ form and read about our Jindal Stainless MoU partnership.

Pattern, sizes & thickness
Chequered plate comes down to two things: the chequered pattern and the base thickness. The common patterns are diamond and teardrop (a tear-drop rib set in a staggered layout), plus the 5-bar "durbar" pattern. Buyers typically ask about chequered plate size, 8x4 chequered sheet, standard size, chequered plate thickness, 3mm, 5mm and gauge. Below are the standard Indian-market sizes and their typical base thickness. Keep in mind the pattern itself adds a small raised rib height on top of whatever base thickness is quoted.
| Pattern type | Standard size (mm) | Ft equivalent | Base thickness (mm / gauge) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | 1250 × 2500 | 8x4 / 4×8 ft | 2–6 mm (≈14–3 g) |
| Teardrop (tear-drop) | 1250 × 3050 | 4×10 ft | 3 mm / 4 mm / 5 mm common |
| 5-bar (durbar) | 1500 × 3000 | 5×10 ft | 3–6 mm (≈10–3 g) |
Jindal Stainless supplies the 8x4 chequered sheet (1250 × 2500 mm) as the common stock plate, and it comes in 3 mm, 4 mm and 5 mm base thickness. Heavier sections and other sizes need to be confirmed against your indent. The base material conforms to ASTM A240 / IS 6911, produced by Jindal. Pattern dimensions, meaning rib height and pitch, follow the mill's standard chequered pattern; these get confirmed on request too. For the gauge-to-mm mapping and the full size range, check the sizes & thickness reference.
Weight of chequered plate
The chequered plate weight is the plain base-sheet weight for that size and thickness, with a small pattern allowance added on top for the raised ribs. That's why it always comes in slightly heavier than a plain sheet of the same base thickness. We don't publish a fabricated chequered-specific figure. Instead, we estimate from the base-sheet weight and add the pattern allowance on top. The table lists the plain base-sheet weight for a standard 8x4 (1250 × 2500 mm) plate at 8.0 g/cc. Add the mill's pattern allowance to get the finished chequered weight. To find weight per sq ft, divide the sheet weight by roughly 33.6 sq ft, the area of an 8x4 plate at 1250 × 2500 mm.
| Plate (8x4, 1250×2500 mm) | Base thickness | Plain base weight (8.0 g/cc) | Chequered weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austenitic (e.g. 304/316) | 3.0 mm | ≈75 kg | base + pattern allowance |
| Austenitic | 4.0 mm | ≈100 kg | base + pattern allowance |
| Austenitic | 5.0 mm | ≈125 kg | base + pattern allowance |
| Austenitic | 6.0 mm | ≈150 kg | base + pattern allowance |
For any grade, size and thickness, run the numbers through the weight calculator and check the SS sheet weight chart. Then add the pattern allowance for the finished chequered plate.
Price & what drives it (indicative)
A chequered plate's price comes from the base-plate weight per kg plus a pattern premium, so it sits a bit above a plain sheet of the same grade and thickness. There's no single fixed chequered plate price. It depends on grade, thickness, pattern and quantity, and rates shift with nickel and the LME, so treat any figure here as indicative only. This covers ss chequered sheet price, stainless steel checkered plate price, chequered plate price per kg, chequered plate rate, rate today and ss chequered sheet price list searches. For the current indicative list, check the prices hub and the related stainless steel plate price context. Then confirm today's rate on the RFQ form.
| Factor | Effect on the per-kg rate |
|---|---|
| Grade (316 vs 304 vs 202/409M) | Higher-alloy grades cost more per kg |
| Base thickness | Heavier gauge changes weight and rolling |
| Pattern | Chequered carries a premium over plain sheet |
| Quantity | Bulk lots improve the effective rate |
| Cutting & freight | Cut-to-size and destination add to landed cost |
Applications
Stainless chequered plate gets the nod whenever a floor needs to hold up, stay clean, and resist slipping. That covers chequered plate for stairs, chequered plate for flooring, chequered plate for bus body and chequered plate for platform. Stair treads, ramps, industrial gangways and platforms fall under this group, see fabrication & engineering. Bus and rail body floors and step plates are another case, see bus body & transport and automotive & railway. And for hygienic, washdown or corrosive flooring, 316/316L does the job in chemical process plants and pharma & dairy equipment.

FAQ
What is a stainless steel chequered plate?
This one is stainless steel with a raised anti-slip pattern rolled into one side, diamonds, teardrops or a 5-bar design. It's used on floors, stair treads, ramps and platforms. You'll also hear it called tread plate, floor plate, durbar plate, anti-skid plate or checker plate.
Which grades is SS chequered plate available in?
304, 304L, 316 and 316L are stocked as standard. 202 and 409M come against indent or on request, and every grade is genuine Jindal Stainless material. For coastal or chemical exposure, go with 316/316L. General indoor floors call for 304/304L. Compare the two on the SS 304 and SS 316 pages.
What sizes and thickness does chequered plate come in?
Standard market sizes include 8x4 ft (1250 × 2500 mm), 4×10 ft (1250 × 3050 mm) and 5×10 ft (1500 × 3000 mm). Base thickness usually runs 2–6 mm, with 3 mm, 4 mm and 5 mm being the common picks. Need something else? Other sizes and heavier sections get confirmed against your indent.
How much does SS chequered plate weigh?
Its weight is just the standard base-sheet weight for that size and thickness, plus a small allowance for the raised pattern. Estimate the base weight with our weight chart and calculator, then add the pattern allowance on top.
What is the price of SS chequered plate per kg?
The base-plate rate per kg plus a pattern premium sets the price, and it shifts with grade, thickness, pattern and quantity. Rates are indicative and move with the market. Check the prices hub and confirm today's rate on the RFQ form.
What is the difference between chequered plate and embossed sheet?
A chequered plate carries a raised, anti-skid pattern built for structural flooring and treads. An embossed designer sheet, on the other hand, has a shallow texture meant purely for looks. Two different products, built for two different jobs.
Do you provide a mill test certificate?
Yes, a mill test certificate (MTC) for the genuine Jindal Stainless base material goes out with dispatch. See quality & MTC.
Can you cut chequered plate to size?
Yes, we handle cut-to-size and shearing job-work on the Jindal base plate. Send us your finished dimensions and quantity through the RFQ form.
What is the HSN code / GST rate for chequered plate?

Do you deliver outside Delhi?
Yes, we ship pan-India from our stock point at Ajmeri Gate, one of Delhi's main stainless steel markets. Confirm the freight terms on the RFQ form.
Is it genuinely Jindal material?
Yes, we're a Jindal Stainless MoU partner and an authorised channel, so the chequered plate is genuine, JSL-melted material with a mill test certificate behind it. It's not re-rolled bazaar stock.
Is there a minimum order?
Minimum order and bulk terms depend on grade, pattern, size and thickness. Send your requirement through the RFQ form and we'll confirm.
