Kerala's industrial profile for stainless

Kerala's stainless consumption is shaped by three things: a long coastline, a large tourism economy, and a tight set of process and engineering clusters, each with its own grade profile. Kochi (Ernakulam) carries most of the state's demand. Cochin Port and Cochin Shipyard draw marine-grade 316 / 316L and hot-rolled plate for hulls, decks and offshore fabrication. At the BPCL Kochi Refinery at Ambalamugal, and across FACT (Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore) and the chemical units along the Eloor, Udyogamandal belt, specifications call for 316 / 316L, high-temperature 321 and 310S, plus duplex where chloride exposure or strength demands run higher. Seafood processing and export, a very large industry in the city, runs almost entirely on 316L to cope with marine, brine and chloride conditions. Kollam, in the south, is a different story: a minerals and cashew belt. It's home to the Kerala Minerals and Metals (KMML) titanium-dioxide complex at Chavara and a dense cashew-processing trade, where process, acid and food-contact equipment takes 316 / 316L and hygienic 304.

Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) brings a technology, aerospace and titanium dimension to the picture: Technopark, the VSSC/ISRO ecosystem, and Travancore Titanium Products all draw on 304, high-temperature 321 and 310S, plus process grades for hot-section, laboratory and chemical hardware. Thrissur, meanwhile, is the state's center for jewellery, hospitality and general fabrication, and it runs largely on 304 with mirror, PVD and hairline finishes for showrooms and interiors. Palakkad tells a different story. Home to the Kanjikode industrial area and the KINFRA park, and shaped by decades of engineering and instrumentation work, it takes 304 for general fabrication and turns to 410/420 for wear parts and machine components. Up north, Kozhikode (Calicut), Kannur and Malappuram add their own demand from trade, plywood machinery, furniture and general fabrication, mostly in 304 and 430.

Across the state, tourism keeps the commercial-kitchen and hotel-equipment trade busy, and that trade wants 304 food-contact sheet in 2B and No.4. The Milma dairy network, along with food, beverage and ayurveda units, depends on hygienic 304 and 316L. Utensils, cookware, hardware and signage, being more cost-sensitive, lean on 202, J4 and 204Cu circles and sheet.
