SS 310S Stainless Steel Sheet: Jindal 310 / 310S Heat-Resistant Grade Supplier, Composition & Price (India)

310S stainless steel sheet, sometimes written ss 310s sheet, ss310s sheet or 310 ss sheet, belongs to the high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic heat-resistant family. Nominally it runs 25% chromium / 20% nickel, which is why the trade calls it "2520 stainless." It's built to resist oxidation and scaling at temperatures where 304 and 321 simply give out. So, what is SS 310S? In short, it's a heat resistant stainless steel with strong oxidation resistance up to roughly 1150 °C continuous. The "S" stands for the low-carbon variant, and it welds more easily while resisting sensitisation better than plain 310 does. Its designations read: AISI 310S · Type 310S · UNS S31008 · EN 1.4845 (X8CrNi25-21), with 310 (UNS S31000) as the high-carbon base grade. Relinox works as a jindal 310s stainless steel sheet supplier, an authorized MoU-partner channel that supplies genuine Jindal 310S sheet, plate, coil and patta, complete with mill test certificates (MTC). We ship pan-India from our base at Ajmeri Gate, one of Delhi's main stainless steel markets. The composition and property figures given below follow ASTM A240 and IS 6911, drawing on published data from Jindal Stainless (JSL).

By the Relinox Technical Team, values per ASTM A240, IS 6911 and Jindal Stainless published data.

Disambiguation: "Jindal" here refers to Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) and stainless flat products only. Relinox holds authorized MoU partner status with JSL. It doesn't mean Jindal SAW, JSPL or JSW Steel, which deal in carbon steel and pipes, and it doesn't mean SAIL Salem either.

What is SS 310S stainless steel?

SS 310S (also 310s stainless steel, type 310s, aisi 310s) is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic grade built for sustained high-temperature service. Its heavy 25Cr/20Ni alloy content forms a stable, tenacious oxide scale that shields the metal against oxidation and scaling well above the range of the common austenitics. That's what makes it a heat resistant stainless steel rather than a corrosion grade. Staying fully austenitic and rich in nickel, it also holds up well down to cryogenic temperatures, keeping good toughness where lesser grades would turn brittle.

The "S" in 310S signals the low-carbon version. Plain 310 allows carbon up to 0.25% for creep strength, but that carbon can precipitate as chromium carbide at the grain boundaries (sensitisation) after welding or long hot holds. Capping carbon at 0.08% in UNS S31008 reduces that risk. That's why 310S is the usual choice for welded fabrications and thermal-cycling duty.

Stainless steel breaks down into austenitic grades, and within that group sit the heat-resistant austenitics: 309S, 310/310S, and 314. 310S is one member of that set. It comes in several forms, including sheet, plate, coil and strip, known locally as patta. There's also 310, a higher-carbon variant sitting alongside it.

The European reference for this grade is 1.4845, also written as x8crni25-21. Its trade name is 2520 stainless. In India, the 25Cr-20Ni austenitic flat product lines up with IS 6911. Buyers in the Hindi market ask for it under different names: 310S patta, 310S patti, or 310 chadar (sheet). These all refer to the same grade. On an order, it typically shows up as an 8×4 310S sheet.

SS 310 / 310S chemical composition

The 310S stainless steel composition below follows ASTM A240 (S31008) and lines up with the 25Cr-20Ni austenitic requirement set out in IS 6911. Buyers checking MTC verification use this figure for the 310S stainless steel chemical composition. 310 differs only in carbon content. Beyond that, the two share the same 25Cr/20Ni alloy makeup.

The only real difference between the two grades comes down to carbon content. 310 (S31000) allows up to 0.25% C, which helps with creep strength. 310S (S31008) caps carbon at 0.08%, giving better weldability and less sensitisation. High chromium and nickel levels are what drive the high-temperature performance in both HR and CR forms.

SS 310S mechanical & physical properties

Jindal Stainless takes credit for the physical constants below, drawn from standard 310S published data; the 310s stainless steel properties themselves are annealed reference minima per ASTM A240. Buyers quote these against indent as the 310s stainless steel mechanical properties.

Magnetic responseNon-magnetic (annealed)—

The 310S density comes in at about 7.9 g/cm³, or roughly 7,900 kg/m³. Melting happens over a range, somewhere between 1,400 and 1,450 °C. As for the 310s stainless steel max temperature (its service temperature, in other words), oxidation resistance stays excellent up to 1150 °C continuous and 1035 °C intermittent. That intermittent figure drops lower because thermal cycling puts stress on the protective scale.

On the question of 310s stainless steel oxidation and scaling resistance: the high Cr/Ni content delivers outstanding protection against high-temperature oxidation and scaling. 310S also carries lower carbon than 310, which means it resists sensitisation better. Want to convert these figures into 310s stainless steel weight per sheet, in kg? Use our SS sheet weight chart or the stainless steel weight calculator, working from a density near 7.9.

Corrosion, oxidation & high-temperature behaviour

310S owes its reputation to high-temperature oxidation and scaling resistance, not to anything related to aqueous corrosion. A thick, adherent chromium-nickel oxide scale shields furnace and combustion parts through long stretches of hot service, and the grade holds onto useful creep and rupture strength even at temperature. What it can't do is stand up to chloride pitting or marine and aqueous environments. For that, molybdenum-bearing SS 316 or SS 316L is the right pick. Put simply: specify 310/310S when heat is the threat, and reach for a 316-family grade when chlorides are.

SS 310 vs 310S: what's the difference?

The question of ss 310 vs 310s, the difference between 310 and 310s, really comes down to carbon content and what the part gets used for. Both 310 stainless steel (type 310, UNS S31000) and 310S share the same 25CR/20Ni austenitic base. Only the carbon range and the intended application set them apart.

In practice, most flat-product demand goes to 310S, since sheet and plate get welded and 310S keeps the weld zone corrosion-resistant. Plain 310 is the better pick where the extra carbon buys creep strength in an unwelded high-temperature part.

310S vs other high-temp grades (304H, 321, 309S)

Picking a heat-resistant grade works like a max-temperature ladder. As continuous service temperature climbs past what 304 and 321 can handle, you move up to 309S, then to 310S. Buyers typically run three comparisons: 310 vs 321, 310s vs 304h, and 310s vs 253ma.

GradeApprox. max continuous tempNote
304 / 304H~870 °C304H adds controlled carbon for creep strength at temperature
321~870 °CTitanium-stabilised for the 425–870 °C sensitisation range
309S~1095 °CLower-alloy heat-resistant grade, one step below 310S
310S~1150 °CHighest of this austenitic set; 25Cr/20Ni

For higher-temperature creep duty than 321 handles, compare SS 304H; for titanium-stabilised high-temperature service, look at SS 321; and for a molybdenum-bearing austenitic, see SS 317L. One thing worth flagging: 253MA is a proprietary, trademarked grade. It is not a Jindal product, so we don't supply it and make no claim to it. Applications of 310 / 310S stainless steel

Equipment that runs hot in an oxidizing atmosphere, beyond what common grades can handle, is where 310S stainless steel applications and uses cluster.

  • Furnace & thermal-processing parts, muffles, retorts, heat-treatment fixtures and baskets, radiant tubes and burner components. This is the core 310s for furnace / kiln / radiant tube duty → fabrication & engineering.
  • Heat exchangers & high-temperature process, 310s for heat exchanger, boiler and combustor parts, plus high temperature chemical and refractory equipment → chemical process plants.
  • Cryogenic service, the austenite stays stable and keeps its toughness even at very low temperatures, which is why 310S also turns up in cold-end equipment.

For where 310S sits against the other austenitics in fabricated equipment, see also bus body & transport and kitchen equipment for the fabrication routes generally used with 310.

Standards & conformance

310 and 310S meet ASTM A240 / A240M and IS 6911 for sheet, strip and plate. Jindal Stainless makes the material to these standards, and each mill test certificate confirms it. That's the 310S ASTM A240 / IS 6911 conformance buyers specify by name. Relinox lists these as the standards the material meets, mill conformance only. We don't claim any Relinox certification beyond the JSL MTC. See ASTM A240, IS 6911 and quality & mill test certificates.

Frequently asked questions

What is SS 310S stainless steel?

High-chromium, high-nickel austenitic heat-resistant grade SS 310S runs 25Cr/20Ni and carries the designation UNS S31008. Its low carbon content sets the "S" variant apart from plain 310: welds hold up better, and sensitisation resistance improves too. This is per ASTM A240, which governs both HR and CR forms of the material.

What is the difference between 310 and 310S?

310 and 310S share the same 25Cr/20Ni austenitic base; carbon content is what sets them apart. 310 (S31000) permits carbon up to 0.25%, which helps with creep strength. 310S (S31008), on the other hand, holds carbon at a maximum of 0.08%, giving it better weldability and reducing sensitisation. Both grades fall under ASTM A240.

What is the maximum temperature of 310S?

Jindal Stainless's published data puts 310S's oxidation resistance at roughly 1150 °C under continuous exposure, dropping to around 1035 °C for intermittent service. That gap exists because thermal cycling puts extra stress on the protective oxide scale.

Is 310S a heat-resistant stainless steel?

Yes, 310S is one of the standard heat-resistant austenitic grades. It's used above the service range of 304 and 321, in furnaces, kilns and other high-temperature applications.

Is 310S stainless steel magnetic?

No, 310S is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition, and its high nickel content keeps the austenite stable even after cold work. Trust the mill test certificate for grade confirmation; a magnet won't tell you what you need to know.

Is 310S better than 304 for high temperature?

For sustained high-temperature and oxidising service, 310S is the answer, it handles far higher temperatures than 304. For ambient corrosion or chloride environments, 304 or 316 are the correct choice, and cheaper too, per ASTM A240.

Does 310S resist chloride corrosion?

310S is built for high-temperature oxidation and scaling resistance, not aqueous chloride pitting. For chlorides, specify a molybdenum-bearing grade such as 316 or 316L.

What sizes and thickness does 310S sheet or plate come in?

The 8×4 (1250×2500), 4×10 (1250×3050) and 5×10 (1500×3000) mm sizes are standard. Thickness runs from about 0.3 mm up to 12 mm and beyond (mm plus gauge). Plate turns up often in structural furnace parts. As for the exact 310S stock range, that gets confirmed on RFQ.

What is the price of SS 310S sheet per kg?

310S is a higher-nickel premium grade, and it's priced per kg based on nickel/LME movements, thickness, finish, quantity and freight. We share an indicative table and confirm today's rate on RFQ. For the 304 baseline, check the SS 304 sheet price page.

Do you supply genuine Jindal 310S with MTC?

Yes. Relinox is a Jindal Stainless MoU partner, and we're able to supply genuine JSL-melted 310S, part of Jindal's 310 series, backed by a mill test certificate on supply. Ask for a sample MTC through the RFQ form.

Which standard does 310S conform to?

Jindal Stainless produces 310S to ASTM A240 / A240M and IS 6911 in sheet, strip and plate form, backed by a mill test certificate.

Can you cut 310S to size or supply plate, coil or patta?

Yes, we can supply sheet, plate, coil and strip/patta forms, plus cut-to-size job-work, with pan-India dispatch from our Ajmeri Gate, Delhi stock point. Send your sizes through the RFQ form, and you'll get a quote along with the MTC.
